Join the Grand Masters, their students, and Glendo Corporation for the special Weekend Events at the 2012 Grand Masters Program in Emporia, Kansas.

Glendo is extending a special “Request for Private Invitation” to those interested in attending the weekend events. A select few will be chosen from submissions on this website to receive an invitation to attend the events from August 3—5, 2012 in Emporia. The request for private invitation is open until June 15, 2012.

NOTE: Applications are NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED for Alain Lovenberg’s course.

The 2012 Grand Masters Program application is available for download. Please note that, although students may apply for both courses separately, a student may attend only one course as they are concurrent. Questions about applying? An Interview with D.J. Glaser

D.J. Glaser is president of Glendo Corporation, the maker of GRS Tools.

How did the Grand Masters Program get started?

D.J. Glaser: “First, I must say this unique program for accomplished hand engravers was not my idea; it was the vision of Glendo’s General Manager, Kim Pember. Sometime in late 2003 or early 2004, she approached me with the idea of providing a special event for the world’s finest hand engraving artists.

“In spite of their solitary working habits, she believed these world-class engravers would value the opportunity to learn from each other and enjoy the mutual camaraderie. Kim believed that unless someone brought them together, these remarkable artists may never actually meet each other or have the chance to pass on the legacy of engraving to those who could appropriately value this knowledge. 2011 Grand Masters Announced!

Glendo is proud to announce that Alain Lovenberg and Alexander Sidorov will be the master instructors for the Seventh Annual Grand Masters Program courses in 2011. Each engraver will present a full two-week course in their own style of engraving or stone setting.

Alain Lovenberg

Lovenberg’s two-week course will cover techniques of deep relief engraving and full gold inlay for background treatments, as seen here in this firearm by Lovenberg.

Alexander Sidorov

Sidorov will once again share the secrets of pavé stone setting with his students during a full two-week course. The pendant by Sidorov is an excellent example of the technical objectives of his 2011 course.

The “Unofficial” Start of Grand Masters 2010

In only a few days, Grand Masters Program students will begin arriving to learn from three Italian masters from Creative Art. Although the event does not officially start until August 2, two engravers have already arrived at the GRS Training Center in Emporia, Kansas. (more…)
